Paper Guardian Production Update

Hey there,
It’s been a while since our last update and we’d like to let you know where things are at with Paper Guardian. As some of you may have heard, China is currently experiencing Covid lockdowns. The lockdown rules vary from city to city and in the strictest cases everyone has been asked to stay home - preventing factories and businesses from operating. This is something that is greatly affecting our production.
These lockdowns started in March, we were hoping they’d be lifted by now, and there hasn't been a clear indication on when they will end. We’ve been in constant communication with our factory and they are estimating a 6-8 weeks delay with the production of Paper Guardian (hopefully no longer than this). This means that we have to postpone our shipping date to July.
We’re extremely sorry about this news and know that you are all looking forward to receiving your Paper Guardian. So we'd like to thank you very much for your understanding and patience.

Paper Guardian Production Update

Hey there,
It's been a while and we'd like to give you all an update on where we are at with this project! Paper Guardian is currently in its pre-production phase and we are working on tooling and molds. Some new details we’ve worked through include finalizing the clip mechanism as well as adding a magnetic closure.
We tried to keep the design as close to the original as possible and minimize any aesthetic changes unless absolutely required. As of now, unless unforseen event arises, we are still scheduled to start shipping by May 20th.
Paper Guardian will make it fun and easy to organize and reuse scrap paper and we’d like to thank you again for helping us bring it to life.

Cover Design

Hey there,
As we are finalizing our design we have run into a hurdle with our cover. Our current design has a reversible cover. The idea behind this was that when not in use, the clip side could be turned over, and Paper Guardian could become more streamlined and slide easily into your bag without the clip snagging onto things. This closure mechanism was meant to work with a pressure or snap system.
Originally our manufacturer had assured us this solution would work. However, we’ve since gotten second opinions from other engineers and there seems to be a general consensus that, although this would probably work in the beginning, there is a chance it could become loose in the long run - sort of like what often happens to plastic tupperware and their lids becoming loose.
New cover closure design possibility
Since our goal is to create a product that can last a lifetime, we are considering the possibility of using a hinge. This may sacrifice some sleekness to the product but we will try to make the design as integrated as possible. On the functionality side, aside from making it last much longer, it simplifies the opening/closing motion when accessing the papers inside.
We are still looking into this and the decision is not final. We’d love to know your thoughts.

Hey there,
First of all, we’d like to wish everybody a great 2022! Hope everybody is in good health and may all your 2022 wishes come true.
We’d like to give you guys an outline of our next steps for Paper Guardian so that you can know what we are going to be working on and what to expect.
Final Engineering (Now - Feb 10)
We’re currently working on our final design and engineering. Our goal here is to get our Paper Guardian design ready for production. We will be posing additional updates about this when we can. Some of our tasks are to:
- Double check one last time our current design and features and make sure everything works well. Although we’ve conducted various tests, additional product testing and feedback is always good to make sure we did not miss anything and that the product will work well over time.
- Work along with our manufacturers and engineers to create a version of Paper Guardian that can be mass produced. All parts have to fit and work well and hold up during different tests such as drop tests, temperature (high/low) tests, UV tests, corrosion test, etc.
Tooling (Feb 20 - March 30)
With our engineering files finalized we can move ahead with tooling. This will help us create multiple copies of our parts at identical qualities. This is a difficult process that requires a lot of precision and intensive manual labor.
Production (April 10 - May 10)
While tooling is being finalized the factory has to prepare all the materials and parts for production. Once the tools arrive production can begin.
QC / Packaging (May 10 - May 15)
Once production is done and before the products are packed all products have to be thoroughly inspected to make sure all parts are perfect and that there are no manufacturing defects. Once QC is completed, packaging can begin.
Shipping Starts (May 20)
And with Paper Guardian packed, they can be ready to be shipped!
Please bear in mind that these are target dates and things may sometimes change. We will try to stick to this as closely as we can and if there any unprecedented events / changes we will make sure to notify everybody about these.
